My Gyrotonic journey started like many others. I didn’t like the way I looked.
It took some more time before I came to understand and appreciate the transformative benefits of practicing Gyrotonic exercise.
I had no idea how much there was to learn and how my body would change as I kept going deeper, finding muscles I didn’t know I had, and experiencing healing benefits I had no idea were even possible.
After each session I still felt a little bit clumsy and awkward but the essence of this unique way of teaching my body to move was starting to make sense.
I was discovering all these different ways that my body didn’t work as well as I would have liked. But the surprising thing was it didn’t discourage me.
There’s a life lesson here as well in terms of making changes – change happens slowly, and small wins need to be recognized and celebrated.
Apparently, my body was out of alignment and had been for some time. A contributing factor was my frozen right shoulder. To a trained eye I was literally crooked.
Like anything else, you get out of something what you put into it. It is impossible to practice the Gyrotonic method without being more aware of your body, and that is likely to lead to weight loss.
